DIY Epoxy Application Process
Deep Clean
Remove all soap scum, oils, and residue with TSP cleaner. This is critical — any contamination causes peeling.
Sand Surface
Use 400-grit sandpaper to create "tooth" for epoxy to grip. Sand entire surface evenly.
Mix Epoxy
Combine Part A and Part B per instructions. Once mixed, you have limited working time (usually 1-2 hours).
Apply Thin Coats
Roll on 2-3 thin coats. Thick coats cause drips and poor curing. Wait 1-2 hours between coats.
Cure 48-72 Hours
Don't use tub for at least 48-72 hours. Full cure takes 7 days — be gentle during this time.

Is epoxy the best coating for bathtubs?
For DIY, epoxy is the most durable consumer option. However, professionals often use polyurethane or acrylic-urethane systems that are more flexible (won't crack) and more UV-stable (won't yellow).
Why is my epoxy coating peeling?
Peeling is caused by contamination (soap residue, oils), inadequate sanding, wrong temperature during application, or using the tub before full cure (7 days). Once it starts peeling, you must strip and start over.
Can I apply epoxy over existing coating?
Only if the existing coating is in perfect condition. If there's any peeling, you must strip it completely first. Applying over damaged coating will cause immediate peeling.
